The questions exterior painting clients ask first

Q01

How much does exterior painting cost in San Diego?

Exterior painting in San Diego generally runs $2.50 to $5 per square foot, so most single-family homes land between $4,000 and $10,000. Stucco repair, the number of stories, and the amount of trim and detail all affect the price. We give you a fixed written quote after seeing the home.

  • Single-story stucco homes are typically $4,000 to $7,000
  • Two-story and heavy-trim homes run higher
  • Extensive stucco or wood repair is quoted separately
Q02

How does coastal weather affect exterior paint?

San Diego's strong UV, marine layer, and salt air break paint down faster than inland climates, especially near the coast. That's why we use UV and salt-resistant coatings and prep thoroughly. Proper prep and the right product are what let our exterior work carry a 5 to 10 year warranty instead of fading in a couple of seasons.

Q03

How long does exterior painting take?

Most exterior repaints take three to six days, depending on the size of the home, the condition of the stucco or siding, and the weather. We schedule around dry conditions, prep one day, and paint in stages, walking the finished job with you before we consider it done.

Everyone on the team was professional, prompt and responsive. Luis explained the entire process and Mel's follow-through was exceptional. They delivered on the look and feel we wanted, and we would recommend their service to anyone who owns well constructed cabinets but wants to give them a refreshing new life. The original dark cabinets showed all the fingerprints, grease and dust, but the new white finish has stronger enamel protection and is much easier to clean and maintain. And it was way more cost effective than a complete remodel, we are very happy with the results!

I called Lifetime Painting (referred by One Day Door and Closets) and met with Luis within a few days I was happy and excepted their bid. Gabriel and Carlos were wonderful to work with. They were professional, friendly and prompt everyday. I had my popcorn ceiling remove, textured and painted. I could not ask for a better job. They also painted a large living room, hallway and all my doors. Gabriel was very thorough and went above and beyond to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. Albert replaced all my door handles for me and I appreciated Pablo came to finish all the final little touch ups. I am very happy with their work and would highly recommend them. I hope to use them again.

We are so happy with the work Lifetime Custom Painting did on our home! They painted our interior and part of the exterior, installed new baseboards, replaced the upstairs flooring, installed new vanities/toilets and completely redid our banister. Everything turned out beautiful and the attention to detail was excellent. Pablo, the project manager, was especially great to work with — professional, responsive, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Exterior Painting questions, answered

Straight answers about exterior painting in San Diego, from a team that's painted local homes since 2007.

How long will my exterior paint last?

With proper prep and premium coatings, exterior paint in San Diego lasts 7 to 12 years. Our exterior work is backed by a 5 to 10 year warranty depending on the system, and coastal homes may need recoating slightly sooner due to salt exposure.

Do you repair stucco cracks before painting?

Yes. Stucco crack repair, patching, and caulking are part of our exterior prep. Painting over unrepaired cracks traps moisture and shortens the life of the finish, so we fix the surface first.

Do you paint during the marine layer or rain?

We schedule exterior work around dry, suitable conditions. Painting in damp or wet weather ruins adhesion, so we plan the job around San Diego's marine layer and any rain to protect your warranty.
